Melissa Karges at a youth retreat she and Sarah Berta-Somogyi co-led for their students from two different schools in Hungary. They will host another similar event in November.

The Theologische Hochschule (Seminary) in Oberursel, Germany, to Host “Dies Academicus” November 7-9. The Seminary of our partner church body, the Selbständige Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche (SELK) will host a weekend of lectures and discussions on the theme of “Listening to God’s Word: Exegetical Approaches.” The presenters will include faculty from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, such as Dr. David Adams and Dr. James Voelz, as well as faculty from the Seminary in Oberursal such as Dr. Jorg Salzmann. Topics will include Genesis 1-2, Amos 7-8, 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 together with 1 Corinthians 14:34-35, and more. On November 9, Dr. Robert Kolb will be presented with the Herman Sasse Award. The program will take place both in English and German.

  • Please pray for the students and others who attend the program, that they would be strengthened for service to church and world.
  • Pray for safe travels for all participants.
  • Give thanks to God for the wonderful service to the church which Dr. Kolb continues to give.

Choir Concert to Proclaim the Gospel Through Music in Frankfurt, Germany, November 9. On Saturday, November 9, 2013, the Trinity International Concert Choir, a choir based out of the LCMS International congregation, Trinity Lutheran Church in Frankfurt, will offer a free choir concert. The choir is directed by music director of Trinity, Jerrode Marsh. The concert will present works from America, Germany, France and Russia. Composers include Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, Duruflé and more. Similar concerts have been given in the past and they always draw in many members of the surrounding community. In the past, the concerts have been a starting point for people who have now become regular attendees of Trinity.

  • Please consider asking your pastor to add this event to the Prayers of the Church on Sunday, November 3.
  • Pray that the Gospel would be clearly proclaimed through music, and that many people would begin to attend the Divine Service at Trinity after attending the concert.

Eurasia Missionary David Fiala to Present at the Beautiful Feet Mission Conference, November 14-16. On November 14-16, 2013, Concordia University Chicago will host the Beautiful Feet Mission Conference for college students interested in ways to serve at home and abroad in mission work. Missionary David Fiala will travel from his home in Slovakia to the United States to present at the conference. Fiala will present about mission work in Eurasia and encourage college students to prayerfully consider serving as Globally Engaged in Outreach (GEO) missionaries or in short term missions.

  • Pray for those attending the conference to have discernment about how to serve.
  • Consider asking your pastor to add this event to the Prayers of the Church for Sunday, November 10!
  • Please pray for David as he travels and speaks at the conference.

Weekend Retreat for Hungarian Students to Take Place November 15-17. GEO missionaries Melissa Karges and Sarah Berta-Somogyi will host a weekend retreat for high school students from three of the Lutheran high schools in Hungary with which they work. The retreat will take place in the lakeside town of Révfülöp in Hungary. Melissa says: “It is a time for Christian students to come together for fellowship and encouragement as well as learning about and growing deeper in faith.” Sarah and Melissa have co-led several of these retreats in the past and they are always a welcome activity and a great way to share in the faith.

  • Please pray for Sarah and Melissa as they work together to plan and execute the retreat.
  • Pray that the students would be encouraged, build relationships with fellow Christians, and grow in their faith.
  • Consider asking your pastor to add this event to the Prayers of the Church for Sunday, November 10.
