The Gift of a Passport: One Short Term Team Volunteer’s Story

Rev. Rex Rinne is the Pastoral Care Facilitator for the Eurasia Region. He brings Word and Sacrament care to the missionaries throughout the region, especially those with no regular access to it. Linda comes alongside Rev. Rinne by also helping to care for the missionaries in other ways, such as being a listening ear, lending a helping hand to missionary wives when their husbands travel, and much more. They share this story of a short-term team volunteer who was a member of one of their former congregations.

In 2010 we led a tour to see The Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany. Among this group of adventuresome folks were family, friends and members from our congregation in MN. One of our members, Karen Krousey, had never been outside of the U.S. before and loved seeing and exploring this beautiful part of the world. After we returned to the U.S., Karen held up her passport and said, “Hey I’ve got a passport. I can go places.” That statement was the beginning of a life changing journey.

For five consecutive years Karen has gone on mission trips to Poland with the Office of International Mission. She just completed her 5th mission trip, this time in Bladnice, Poland. God uses Karen and people like her to share the amazing Truth of Jesus’ unconditional love for all people around the world. We praise God that Karen has been willing “to go.”

Some people send others, while others choose to go and serve. Each are equally important in the Kingdom of God. Everyone has the same command from God to share the Good News of Jesus Christ wherever they are. It was a special joy for us to join Karen and her mission team for a couple of days in Bladnice, Poland. Being up for yet another adventure, Karen came to hang out with us for five days. We showed her our city of Ostrava, CZ, traveled to Prague, connected to people, played some Hand and Foot cards, and enjoyed each other’s company. Thanks for being willing to serve Karen. We thank God for your servant’s heart!
