Taking our breath away!

Czech Republic, Germany, Witness

The glorious days of summer are almost over.  For months, blogs and Facebook posts have been filled with pictures and stories of glorious days and events.  Graduations.  Weddings.  Family Reunions.  Vacations.  Sites seen for the first time and those that take your breath away again and again.  As September rapidly approaches, it’s met with some excitement for the new school year and many activities beginning again.  But it’s also met with sadness as it means a return to routine and to what is sometimes the “mundane.”

But one thing goes on that will never be “mundane.”  Our worship of our Triune God.  Hearing God’s Word preached in its truth and purity.  Receiving the very body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, and in it the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation.  What a glorious event!  It should take our breath away again and again and again.  Christ comes to unworthy sinners in His love and mercy.  Now that’s worth posting and telling the world!

And so today we post some sights that take our breath away.  Throughout Eurasia, the LCMS and her partner churches are preaching God’s Word and administering the Lord’s Supper to unworthy sinners.  We thank Him for the work He is doing here in bringing Christ to His people.  Here are just a few of the places where His good gifts are given by LCMS missionaries and her partners in Eurasia:

Rev. Alexander Furs, Saratov, Russia distributes communion.  Rev. Furs is a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria in Russia (ELCIR), a partner church of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.

Rev. Charles Cortright, chaplain for the LCMS Eurasia region, leads the Divine Service for the short-term (GEO) missionaries.

Rev. Joseph Asher, LCMS missionary to Kaiserslautern, Germany, distributes communion during a worship service.

Rev. Hugo Gevers, missionary to refugees in Leipzig, Germany, and member of the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church (SELK) in Germany (a partner church of the LCMS), baptizes a refugee.
