Russian Lutheran Churches Participate in Conference on the Family

Rev. Alexander Furs presents at a conference on preservation of the family in Saratov, Russia.

Rev. Alexander Furs of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria in Russia (ELCIR), a partner church of The Lutheran Church ̶ Missouri Synod, presented at an international conference on family values held at Saratov State Medical University on April 3, 2017. The conference, entitled “The Role of Religion and Religious Organizations in the Preservation of Family and Family Values”, gathered people representing all of the traditional religions and denominations of the region, human rights and children’s rights commissioners, Duma deputies, foreign presenters, public activists, and the press. Rev. Furs’ presentation discussed the role of family and marriage.

During the plenary meeting, the participants shared their vision of and experience in preserving family values. Other Lutheran representatives were Rev. Alexander Djamgarov of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia and the Other States (ELCROS) and Deacon Sergei Anikin (ELCIR).

Rev. Furs, a pastor of St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church in Saratov, also greeted the conference on behalf of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria.
