St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church in Saratov, Russia hosted three organ recitals to encourage interest in their congregation.  On May 28, a recital centered on the festival of the Lord’s Ascension was held.  The organ pieces were performed by organ students from Natalie Golfarb’s organ class at the Saratov Sobinov State Conservatory.

The “Organ Meetings” recital program included music composed by Bach, Telemann, Frescobaldi and Mendelssohn.  Many who attended the recitals were interested in the doctrine and history of the Lutheran Church. Their questions were happily answered by Rev. Alexander Furs, pastor at St. John the Evangelist.

Other outreach activities of St. John’s include a Finnish language class and a youth seminar.  In addition, the congregation hosts confirmation classes and weekly Bible studies.

St. John congregation is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria in Russia (ELCIR), a partner church of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
