GEO Melissa Karges presents to the conference attendees in Budapest.

Missionaries David Fiala, Sarah (Cusson) Berta-Somogyi and Melissa Karges attended an annual conference in Budapest for English language teachers from 20 Lutheran high schools and grade schools in Hungary. Nineteen Hungarian nationals were in attendance.

David, project coordinator for central Europe, delivered a presentation on the footprint of LCMS activity in Eurasia using the Witness, Mercy, Life Together emphasis, highlighting projects, short-term teams and personnel serving in central Europe. He invited those present to consider how and in what way cooperation could be expanded in the future specifically for GEO* missionaries and teams.

Melissa spoke about her experiences on short term teams while a student at Concordia University, Irvine, Calif. and how this was part of the process of her coming to serve as a GEO missionary in Sopron, Hungary. She shared, “It was also exciting for me because I was able to talk about and invite the other schools to come to camp this summer. I hope they do because I know it may be one of the few times that these kids will hear the Gospel in its simple purity.”
