It was an historic Day at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Prague, CZ on Sunday, October 8, 2017. This was the site of the ordination of Sorin-Horia Trifa, the first Romanian speaking Confessional Lutheran pastor.  Rev. James Krikava, Eurasian Regional director, ordained Pastor Trifa in the Divine Service with Rev. Dr. Charles Cortright preaching the sermon. After his ordination, Pastor Trifa celebrated the Sacrament of the Altar to conclude the service. The service was adorned on this special day with a crucifer and acolytes. Organ and harp music filled St. Michaels for this memorable occasion.

Pastor Trifa and his wife Florentina and sons Sergiu and Matai traveled to Prague from their home in Bucharest, Romania for this special weekend. Trifa has been working closely with Pastor Krikava preparing for his ordination, which is a major step in establishing a confessional Lutheran presence in Romania. His knowledge of the language and culture provides Trifa with an advantage in working with his countrymen. Because of this, he was also installed as an Alliance Missionary for the LCMS.  An Alliance Missionary is an indigenous worker who receives support from the LCMS for bringing the Gospel to his people.

Trifa’s efforts are bearing fruit already. He has a small congregation that worships in a rented Anglican church in the center of Bucharest. On special occasions, up to forty people have worshiped with the congregation.

Now that he is ordained, Trifa can bring the Sacrament of the Altar to this growing group of Christians in central Romania. He will begin the work of building the Confessional Lutheran Church of Romania.  We pray that God will bless his efforts to bring Jesus to the Romanian people in the future.
