This post was shared by Deacon Vyacheslav Shadrin, head minister of Transfiguration Lutheran in Minusinsk and Holy Trinity Lutheran in Krasnoyarsk, congregations of LCMS partner church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria in Russia (ELCIR). The LCMS supports projects with this partner.
“We have been inviting and bringing young people from a local college to our various activities such as sports games or a master class in cooking in our kitchen. Sometimes we have guest evangelists who lead those meetings. From time to time, we have Rev. Pavel Zayakin who brings various films and leads interesting discussions. [Rev. Zayakin serves in The Siberian Evangelical Lutheran Church (SELC), also a partner church of the LCMS.] Sometimes we have Lutherans from Finland. One evening we were able to gather more than 20 young people for a such a meeting where we read Matthew 18:8-9 about the eye and the hand and tried to apply those words of Jesus to our life situations.
“On May 20, we had another outreach meeting with a group of young people at the college where young Finnish Lutherans showed pantomime skits about living with God through God’s Word and the Church. We had had similar outreach meetings before, including some with orphaned children. We plan to continue this outreach ministry in June, and our task will be to invite young people to our evangelism evenings and also to a Christian retreat, ‘Polygon 2013’ which is scheduled to be held in the Shira District in neighboring Khakassia in August.
“Please pray for the young people we reach out to, for the children in our Sunday school, for the local ethnic [German, Baltic and other] diasporas which we continue to reach out to. Please also pray for a successful reconstruction our congregation facility and building a good porch this or next year.”
