The youth group at the Silesian Lutheran Church of the Augsburg Confession in Tranovice, Czech Republic gathered for a winter camp.
Ryan Volkman, a GEO missionary in the Czech Republic, recently participated in a winter camp with the youth group where he and his wife, Stanka, live. As Ryan spends most of his time visiting different youth groups and English groups throughout Silesia, he doesn’t often get to sit down with the kids in his own church, the Silesia Lutheran Church of the Augsburg Confession in Tranvocie. The theme of the week was “Winter Olympics” and Ryan was asked to lead a discussion on “skating on thin ice.”
“We started with a Bible study of the story of Samson. He was a man who flirted with sin. We continued by reading through the 2nd chapter of 1st Peter and spoke about how it relates to this theme. During our time at the camp I was quite impressed by the focus on the Word. Of course we had games and songs at camp, but the focus always came back to Christ in the Word. A study of His Word saturated each part of the day. During the few days we were there, I was constantly giving thanks to God that He had created a desire within these youth to read and study the Word which He has given to them.”
