January 5, Leipzig, Germany: In the new year, St. Trinitatisgemeinde, Leipzig, and Die Brücke will begin a new theme for the year titled “Ihr seid ein Brief Christi” or “You are a letter of Christ” from 2 Corinthians 3:3. On January 5th, members and staff will meet for a prayer meeting at St. Trinitatisgemeinde before the first seminar on this theme, which is scheduled for February 16th in the historic Lukaskirche. Rev. Dr. Christopher S. Ahlman, missionary from The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS); Rev. Hugo Gevers, missionary to the Iranian population from our partner church body, Selbständige Evangelische Lutherische Kirche (SELK); and Rev. Markus Fischer, the SELK pastor of St. Trinitatisgemeinde are working together for a church plant and outreach in Leipzig’s Volkmarsdorf region.
January 29-30, Wittenberg, Germany: The Supervisory Board of the International Lutheran Society of Wittenberg (ILSW) will meet Jan. 29-30 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg. The ILSW is the German non-profit corporation owned by the SELK, LCMS and Concordia Publishing House (CPH). Reporting to the board will be Missionary Rev. David Mahsman, Director of Special Assignments for Eurasia, who heads The Wittenberg Project for the LCMS. The ILSW is working toward renovating the Old Latin School in Wittenberg to be a ministry center. ILSW board members are Rev. Michael Kumm (LCMS), chairman; LCMS President Matthew Harrison (LCMS); Bishop Hans-Jörg Voigt (SELK); Rev. Roger Zieger (SELK); Mr. Ulrich Schroeder (SELK); and Dr. Bruce Kintz (CPH). Topics will include the status of renovation plans for the Old Latin School (with a tour of the school), partnership with Colleg Wittenberg for the purpose of building and reservation management and the status of the programming being prepared for the Old Latin School. - Pray that the theme for St. Trinitatisgemeinde would invigorate the members in their task of proclamation to the unchurched, and draw in many who have not yet heard the Good News of Jesus Christ.
