The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod began work in South Africa in 1982. Today, the LCMS celebrates full altar and pulpit fellowship with two church bodies in South Africa – the Lutheran Church in Southern Africa (LCSA) and the Free Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Africa (FELSiSA) – and provides financial support and short-term professors in support of pastoral formation through the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Tshwane/Pretoria.
