In Narva, Estonia, it is tradition that the mayor and a pastor light the first candle of Advent in Narva’s Central Square. This year, Rev. Oleg Sevastyanov, with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria in Russia, was asked to take place in this honor on November 27. Rev. Sevastyanov, who received his Master of Divinity at Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, founded a Lutheran mission congregation in Narva, Estonia, the first Russian-speaking congregation in Estonia. Narva is located near the Estonian-Russian border. Rev. Sevastyanov is a former Russian film actor turned pastor.
