Rev. Alexander Furs is happy to share that Head Pastor and Probst Rev. Panchu and he finished preparing their congregational catechist Sergei Anikin for the deacon’s exam and ordained ministry. On November 30, Sergei passed an exam for being adequately equipped for the ministry of a deacon. On December 12, the Synodal Council of The Church of Ingria made a resolution to request the Bishop to ordain the catechist for the office of the deacon to serve St. John’s Lutheran Congregation in Saratov.
On December 14, on the Third Sunday of Advent, during the festivities celebrating the 20th anniversary of the congregation in Toksovo in the St. Petersburg region, Bishop Arri Kugappi ordained Sergei Anikin as a deacon.
On December 21, Deacon Sergei started his diaconal ministry in Saratov at the Divine Liturgy of the Fourth Sunday in Advent. Many new people attended the worship.
In addition to his main ministry, Deacon Anikin leads the meetings of the congregation’s youth club, does mission work, has set up a discussion group in a social network, and writes poetry and prose. A month ago, St. John’s Lutheran Church hosted a first-ever evening with Sergei Anikin where he presented his literary works.
Bishop Kugappi commissioned Rev. Furs and Rev. Panchu to continue with Sergei’s theological education as Sergei plans to study for a master’s degree.
