The Rev. Dr. Albert Collver installs Rev. Tony Booker at the Church of St. Michael in Prague.
We celebrate with Rev. Tony Booker for being installed as pastor of the Church of St. Michael in Prague, Czech Republic on October 8. Booker is a Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) pastor and missionary serving in an English-speaking congregation.
Due to the International Lutheran Theological Conference being held in Prague the days before Rev. Booker’s installation, several representatives from the LCMS were able to participate in the service. Rev. Dr. Albert Collver, director of church relations, was the installing official. Rev. Dr. Timothy Quill, director of international theological education, preached the installation sermon. Rev. Booker and Dr. Quill had previously worked together on translation projects. Rev. David Jurech, Superintendent of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Augsburg Confession in the Czech Republic (ECAV) was also in attendance.
Following his installation, Rev. Booker returned to the States. Through continued support-raising, he hopes to return to Prague full-time in January 2012.
Rev. Booker is excited about the ministry in Prague. He shared his motto for work in Prague as ” Returning the Gospel to the Heartland of the Reformation.” He was grateful for the time in Prague and shared, “My brief visit to Prague last week revealed that opportunities are almost endless.” There is a large international student population in Prague and he hopes to reach them with Lutheran theology. He also plans to increase awareness of St. Michael’s in the expatriate community.
Rev. Booker shared that Jan Huss, a Czech reformer in the 15h century, was a key person in the spread of the Reformation throughout the region. In downtown Prague, a monument to Huss proclaims “Tell everyone the truth!”. Rev. Booker finds Huss’ truth, the living Word of God, as applicable today as before.
