On November 14–16, Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) Missionary David Fiala attended the 15th annual Beautiful Feet Mission Conference (BFMC) hosted by Concordia University, Chicago. David Fiala is the Project Coordinator for Central Europe where he plans and organizes short-term mission teams, supervises several Globally Engaged in Outreach (GEO missionaries), and supports Lutheran churches in the region. This year at the conference, for the first time in its history, representatives from each of the 10 Concordia University System schools were in attendance: Austin, TX, Selma, AL, Bronxville, NY, Mequon, WI, Chicago, IL, Portland, OR, Irvine, CA, Seward, NE, Ann Arbor, MI, St Paul, MN. The BFMC is an event where mission minded students and faculty gather to hear from missionaries, mission agencies, Synod’s RSOs, etc. about careers and opportunities linked to the mission and ministry of the LCMS in the foreign and national mission fields. In addition to manning a display table representing the Eurasia Region, Fiala (one of only two LCMS Office of International Mission (OIM) Network Supported Missionaries (NSM) present at the event) was invited to speak during a plenary session sharing stories and information from Central Europe, where he has served since 2005. “There were so many students who came to my table after the session,” Fiala recalls, “Many had no idea that the LCMS even sent missionaries to Europe, but all of them wanted to know more about how they could get involved directly!” In addition to career missionary opportunities, GEO opportunities abound as well as Short Term Team events. Faculty representatives from three of the Concordias requested more information about how they could get students directly involved on Short Term Teams summer 2014!
Next year’s BFMC will be hosted by Concordia Austin in November.
