GEO Missionary Melissa Karges helps to lead a Lutheran weekend retreat
Several of Melissa Karges’ students gather for a discussion.
GEO Missionary Melissa Karges was one of eight leaders from her school who spent a weekend at a Lutheran religion camp with 14 high school students at a Lutheran retreat house in Balatonszárszó, Hungary. The leaders presented devotions, discussion groups, games, and activities. One particular activity was an Invisible Theatre event that had the kids actors in the events of Maunday Thursday and Good Friday.
Melissa shared, “It was a cool opportunity for the kids to get to know more about me, but also about the great and wonderful God who has radically affected my life with His love for me.” There were students at this camp who do not yet have a relationship with Christ, and Melissa felt it was a way to tell them how much God wants them. Melissa also found opportunities to encourage the Christians at the retreat. One of the biggest problems faced by Hungarians is that once they come to faith, there aren’t a lot of ways to keep them in it.
