“In March 2012, Rev. Alexander Furs, pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Congregation (ELCIR) in Saratov, Russia, was invited by a regional governmental ministry to participate in a festival of sacred music in connection with Lent. The inviting governmental body partners with St. John’s Lutheran Congregation because it’s the only church in the Volga region that has a church organ. The music event was held in several concert halls in Saratov. Alexander Furs: “On the festival’s second day, I was privileged to extend greetings to the listeners on behalf of our Lutheran church and wished everybody God’s help during Lent. As I talked to several dozen people informally, I witnessed to my faith in Jesus and invited everyone to come listen to sacred music performed on our organ during Sunday worship.”
“The Easter liturgy at St. John’s, in addition to all the church members, gathered many guests such as governmental officials, university professors and artistes. St. John’s church choir performed a special Easter program after the worship.”
