This post was shared by Deacon Vyacheslav Shadrin, head minister of Transfiguration Lutheran in Minusinsk, a congregation of LCMS partner church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria in Russia (ELCIR). The LCMS supports projects with this partner.
On November 17, 2012, the Transfiguration Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Minusinsk, Southern Siberia, Russia, dedicated its new congregational facility: an apartment recently purchased and partially remodeled through the support of the LCMS. This project was supported through the Fan Into Flame campaign and even though the active campaign has ended, nearly $74,000 has been sent to Russia to help complete this project! [Editor’s note: Transfiguration Evangelical Lutheran does not currently have a church and sanctuary building.]
The ceremony was attended by guest pastors from Lutheran congregations in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and a brass band from the village of Verkhny Suetuk. The church members’ children sang a song about the Gospel to the accompaniment of Cuban rattles and a triangle. Deacon Joose Pitkänen led a prayer about the kitchen and the bathroom, calling all to be considerate to our neighbors’ needs. Pastor Ville Melanen prayed for the children of the congregation. Pastor Vitaly Luchagov blessed the library room by reading the passage from the Epistle to Timothy about the saving Scripture. Head minister of the Transfiguration Congregation, Deacon Vyacheslav Shadrin led a prayed about the worship area and the guest room.

After the dedication ceremony, everyone shared words of joy and encouragement with each other. Aato Lamminpää, a volunteer from Finland, spoke on behalf of the volunteer team from Finland who had remodeled the hall and the two bigger rooms, saying he hoped to come back to this apartment later this year. Pastor Pavel Zayakin from the Siberian Evangelical Lutheran Church (SELC), another Russian partner church of the LCMS, extended greetings on behalf of the SELC, and invited everybody to visit their worship services in Abakan. Pastors Vitaly and Jan Kenzap from Suetuk wished the Transfiguration Congregation to grow and expressed the hope that it would have a church building one day. Pastor Ville Melanen wished a life of peace and piety to the congregation. Deacon Joose Pitkänen spoke about the Gospel as the center of our preaching and Christian life so that people may be saved through Jesus Christ.
- Pray for the continued growth of the ELCIR and for this congregation to have a church “home” some day.
